| Accepted Specimens: | Serum samples (preferred) and plasma specimens containing EDTA, CPD, CPDA-1, heparin or sodium citrate as anticoagulants. Samples should be free from bacterial contamination, gross hemolysis, or lipemia. A specimen is too hemolyzed for testing when printed matter cannot be read through it. |
| Specimen Stability: | Serum samples should be tested within 5 days of collection. Optimum storage: 2-8°C. For samples that require longer that 5 days storage, serum must be removed from the red cells and stored at -20°C or below. Plasma samples should be stored no longer than 5 days at 2-8°C. |
| Storage/Transport Conditions: | Specimens should be stored and transported at 2-8ºC. Sufficient frozen cold packs in an insulated cooler can be used to maintain this temperature. |
