About Us
Within a culturally affirming environment and honoring our unique history, the Black Infant Health (BIH) Program uses a group-based approach with complementary client-centered case management to help women develop life skills, learn strategies for reducing stress, and build social support. BIH participants participate in weekly group sessions, supported by one-to-one case management, designed to help access their own strengths and set health-promoting goals for themselves and their babies.

Designed for Moms
We’ll support your health and empowerment so you and your baby can thrive.
Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die in a pregnancy-related death than White women.
Black babies are 3 times more likely to die before their first birthday.
Our goal is to improve Black infant and maternal health as well as decrease the health inequities in infant and maternal mortality rates.

Strengthening Our Village
California created the Perinatal Equity Initiative (PEI) in 2018 to address the disparities in health and birth outcomes experienced by Black/African American babies and seeks to expand services to Black mothers to build on the supports provided through the Black Infant Health Program. PEI in San Bernardino County provides doula support, mental health services, and fatherhood and partner engagement for Black families. The program is guided by a Community Advisory Board to ensure services truly reflect and support the needs of local Black mothers, babies, and families.
