Schools
CalFresh Healthy Living strives to empower eligible families and communities to make healthy food choices and lead physically active lifestyles. By working collaboratively with partners and community members, CalFresh Healthy Living supports nutrition and physical activity education, healthy beverage promotion, and supports policy, systems, and environmental changes to encourage healthy living.
Nutrition and Wellness Services (NWS) and its partners work with qualified Early Care and Education (ECE) sites, Schools (K-12), and Before and After-school Program sites. NWS and partner activities include:
- Providing nutrition and physical activity education, healthy beverage (water) promotion to students and families
- Training teachers/staff on approved evidence-based curricula
- Establishing and/or revitalizing site gardens
- Identifying and engaging champions (teachers, staff, others)
- Providing outreach and support to improve food insecurity
- Supporting policy, systems, and environmental changes including playground stenciling, site gardens, and assisting with wellness policies.
