Social Work Services
California Children’s Services (CCS) is aware of the many difficulties parents and children face when living with a medical condition that requires special attention. To that end there are many services that are offered to help ease some of the stressors that you may deal with on a day-to-day basis and the CCS Social Work team is here to help act as a bridge to accessing those services.
Some of the services that the CCS Social Work team can help you with is connecting your family with other resources in the community. These can be resources that provide necessary living tools such as food or clothing or helping you to access transportation to get to medical appointments. We ask you to think about how you and your family are dealing with your child’s disability; do you have a good understanding about your child’s condition? We can try to connect you to other families with the same disabilities or refer you to a support group. We can put you in touch with professional services you may need like legal aid to help with applying for conservatorship for children who are turning 18, or we can simply assist you in completing applications and other forms. Social Work Services at CCS can also help you with Maintenance and Transportation resources.
We understand that you may have questions about behavior problems at home or at school, emotional issues, getting along with friends and family, anger management, and recreational opportunities. After our experienced Social Workers have met with you, we can steer you to the proper counseling services or agencies that may help you to give your child the best life possible.

Parent Groups
The CCS Social Work staff provide regular parent groups that take place at our Medical Therapy Units throughout the County. CCS parent groups are intended to provide a safe place for open discussion and support. We encourage the parents/caregivers to share their stories and in turn empower others to tell theirs. We also have speakers, chosen by the members of the group, in order to educate and enlighten everyone.
