Syphilis In Women Action Toolkit
San Bernardino County is experiencing a dramatic increase in syphilis and congenital syphilis cases. From 2014 to 2018, there has been a 267% increase in total syphilis cases and a 500% increase in cases among females of childbearing age (15-44yrs). Increasing rates of syphilis among women have resulted in a 675% increase in congenital syphilis (CS) cases from 2014 to 2018. CS continues to be an issue among women who do not receive prenatal care during their pregnancy. Health care providers play a critical role in addressing the syphilis epidemic by identifying and treating infected patients and helping to ensure that sexual partners also receive treatment.
